October 1 2010 My First Blog

If your reading this it's my first day to blog. On October 3, 2003 I woke up to get ready for church my right leg felt very numb, but I thought that I had just slept on my side all night. I worked in the operating room assisting surgeons, which I truly enjoyed but was a very demanding job. I decided not to go to church told my husband I was just going to rest also had a headache took Imitrex for it and laid back down. When Mark returned from church I could walk, but it was like I had a stroke. I had cervical surgery on a herniated disk in my neck almost exactly a year from the day it happen so I thought the bone graft didn't take and had slipped out. I figured I would have to have surgery again and everything would be fine. After Mark returned from church I decided that I should go to the emergency room, because I surely did not wont to get nerve damage if the graft had slipped out. In the emergency room my big toe on my left foot was tingly on the very tip so I did not wont to be over dramatic and chopped it up to my feet being cold. The E.R. doc. decided to give me a steroid shot and sent me home and told me to call my ortho doctor Monday. I went back home and slept until my husband returned from the nightly service. When I woke up I knew something was extremely wrong, so I paged the ortho doctor on call he told me to immediately get to the E.R., which I'm grateful to this day, because I got treatment 1 day sooner if I had waited to Monday. Dr. Holland had mri's ran the next morning they couldn't find no lesion, we didn't have a Nero at our hospital so they took me to Montgomery where I was put in NICU for a week. I would like to go back about 3 weeks before, I was VERY sleepy, sensitive to light it was so bad when I went outside I couldn't even look at my friend talking to me I would have to look down. I had very bad headaches that would come and go I could not remember things very well, my coordination  was off. The only bad habits I had was diet coke like maby 12 in one day and I chewed nicotine gum. Going back to the hospital I was released after the IV steroids with a cath bag and my Nero telling me I was his first patient with TM. They did not do a spinal tap because I had already started the steroids and he said that it would not be conclusive. I was given muscle relaxers and told to take as many as I needed, which I liked to overdosed. The next 6 weeks I did regain some feeling in my left leg and enough in the right to have the severe pain. I will end on this note tonight but I will continue later.
